I won’t describe the shops, hotels, food costs, etc. – enough has already been written about it. I want to tell you about such a fascinating event as a jeep safari.
At the appointed time, a beautiful white jeep with powerful air conditioning arrived at our hotel. We (me and my young man) got into the car, happy that we would be going on safari in such a luxurious and spacious auto. Soon we were a bit disappointed: besides us, there were two couples travelling on safari in the same car, i.e. one car is supposed to have a driver + 3 couples (or 6-7 people). However, the travelling companions turned out to be quite pleasant, so our dissatisfaction passed very quickly.
The car initially went out of town (we drove about half an hour) and stopped near a small shop with souvenirs. There were about a dozen or so of the same jeeps already parked here. In the shop you could buy scarves, local souvenirs, drinks, snacks and water. Parking lasted about 20 minutes and then we moved on.
That’s where it started! The jeep drove out onto the sand and went over the dunes 10-20 metres high, and at breakneck speed. We drove like that for about 10 minutes and then stopped to take photos. There were already many other jeeps with tourists taking pictures on the dunes.
Then we drove on. To be honest, this speed through the dunes made me feel a bit sick and I informed the driver about it. After that he drove more quietly.
After a while we stopped at a car park near a small Muslim “hamlet”. There were a dozen tents with souvenirs, food and drinks. Water was offered free of charge, everything else could be bought. There was also a clothing tent where Europeans could be photographed in local Muslim clothing. Behind the settlement at a distance of 10 metres you could have your picture taken on a camel.
We were seated around a small dais where we reclined on cushions. Then there was a small performance: a man showing different tricks and then a girl with a belly dance. At the end of the event we were deliciously fed: in one of the tents there were many pots with local food (vegetables, porridge, sweets), and everyone chose for himself how much and what to take according to his taste.
In the evening we were taken to our hotels. That was it.
